Over the past year and a half of blogging, I have realized that I REALLY love writing product reviews. Product reviews are fun because they allow me to try new products while also helping you guys find which product is the best for you.
Some of you may remember that Hubs and I went to Vegas awhile ago. We had heard that it would be 100+ degrees there and I wanted a good makeup setting spray with SPF to keep my makeup in place while also protecting my skin. I took a poll on Instagram to see which SPF setting sprays most people recommended and came up with three main products. It was kind of a three-way tie between Supergroup Defense Refresh Set Mist Broad Spectrum SPF 50, Coola Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30, and Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF 50 Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray. You may be thinking, the products with SPF 50 are obviously the better choice because they provides more protection. Actually, SPF 30 provides 97% protection from the sun’s rays and SPF 50 provides 98% protection from the sun’s rays – not a huge difference in my opinion.
I went to Nordstrom to grab all three products to try them out during our trip. I tested the Surpergoop Setting Spray in the store and immediately did not like it. It came out clear, but felt super sticky and greasy after a few seconds. I knew I would not like this product so I didn’t even bother purchasing it.
I tried the Coola Settings Spray first and really liked it. The product comes out kind of like a perfume bottle spray and it feels like a gentle, refreshing sprtiz on your face. Prior to purchasing this product, I had read some reviews saying it caused burning with sensitive skin. I did not experience ANY burning or tingling sensation while using it and actually do consider my skin to be very sensitive. This just goes to show that you really should try things out for yourself before making a final decision. When applying, I cover my hair with a shower cap because it leaves a slight residue if I don’t. You can’t see any residue, but it made my fresh, clean hair {on the hairline} feel like it was day 2 unwashed with leftover product in it. I do love that this product dries very quickly and smells good. Overall, I would highly recommend this product, just cover your hair when using it.
The next product I tried was the UncompliKated SPF Makeup Setting Spray. My first impression of this product was not great. It smelled like aerosol and made my skin feel as though there was a sunscreen film on my face. The product felt pretty light on my skin, and it did a good job of protecting me from the sun. $38 is a little much for a ‘okay’ setting spray in my opinion, and I just did not like how this product made my skin feel.
Overall I love the Coola setting spray and have been using it almost every day since I purchased it! It’s a tad pricey {$36}, but I can justify it because it keeps my makeup in place, makes my skin feel fresh and lasts a long time.
