Hello all. For those of you who frequent this blog, you may be wondering “what is this, a guest post?” Yes, yes, it is. You most likely know me as “Hubby, Hubs, Babes, E-Town” or on the occasion “Big Daddy,” but outside of the blog people call me Eric.
When Morgan asked me to write this post I had no idea what I should write about. Should I talk about our story (I’ll spare you all from the mushiness), a day in the life of Eric and Morgan, or maybe even a top 10 countdown of most embarrassing Morgan stories. The countdown was definitely in the lead going into this day but I promised no embarrassing stories. Instead this post is going to be different, it’s going to be unexpected, it’s going to be random, it might even be a little scary. I should preface this post by stating Morgan has not and will not see this post until it is live. In the land of marriage, we call that TRUST (but with the lack of adult supervision I might “accidentally” let something embarrassing slip).
RUN Jog with Dignity
It’s very easy in this day and age to get carried away with finding worth in what others say, believe, or do. Before you continue reading, let me tell you that if I read the first sentence of this paragraph I would more than likely have rolled my eyes already thinking “oh great, here’s another person telling me why I’m special…” For those of you who can relate to that reaction, this post is for you.
I’m not going to pretend that I have years of wisdom under my belt which qualifies me to share but I am going to give this a shot as it has been something on my mind recently.
RUN JOG – Life moves fast (especially on the weekends) but in general time seems to fly. As the old adage goes “enjoy your days in school” because the second you blink you are late twenties, married, rockin’ the dad bod, and the only thing that matters is your career, seem to be best characterize as a SPRINT. I prefer to jog. It’s ok to move through life listening to music at 150BPM. In other words, move fast enough to keep the momentum pushing forward while still being able to enjoy the scenery.
DIGNITY – If you couldn’t tell, the person I described above is yours truly, minus the dad bod of course… This world not only moves fast but it also has a knack of throwing all of its weight on our shoulders. This is a struggle I deal with daily, how do all those people who appear to have everything together manage to unload all of this weight? Unfortunately, we are all human and letting these burdens keep us down is too easy. Instead of focusing on all the external pressure, I have been pushing to remember that I have worth. Worth in the eyes of the Lord, worth in the eyes of my wife, and self-worth.
At the end of the day, just remember life moves fast and it’s ok to slow it down to a jog with your head up with knowing your self-worth despite what this world has to throw at you.
Jog with Dignity.
PS – In case you were wondering why in the world Morgan would let me ever touch her blog, today marks our 2-year wedding anniversary. Love you Morgie!
