I don’t know about you, but to me, skincare is extremely important. As a 26 year old, I am always hearing about wrinkle prevention, under eye cream, sun screen, the works. I do the best I can to keep my skin healthy and young by caring for it every day and night. I currently use a cleanser, toner, facial lotion and eye cream in the morning and use exfoliator pads and occasionally facial lotion and/or eye cream at night.
I had the pleasure of testing some Beautycounter products (thanks to the wonderful Heather from Florida Bows and Arrows) for the past 2 weeks and I am excited to share my experience with you all! If you have never heard of Beautycounter, you will absolutely love their mission. Their headquarters are located in Santa Monica, CA but their products are reachable all over the U.S and even Canada through their website or through their consultants.
Beautycounter sets themselves apart from the rest of the skincare companies by restricting certain harmful chemicals in their skincare. Apparently, there are 80,000 chemicals on the market today and many do not have safety data, including some of the chemicals used in our skin care products (UM, that is kind of scary). In Europe, there are over 1,300 products/chemicals banned however the U.S. only has banned 30 products/chemicals (wait, what?!). Beautycounter has done their research and has banned 1,500+ products that are questionable. They have also created a “Never List” which lists the products that are not allowed in any of their products. Sounds like a great mission if you ask me!
I had briefly heard of Beautycounter prior to coming in contact with Heather. I was sort of familiar with the company, but did not realize that they made such an effort to provide safer skin/beauty products. When I read more about their mission, I was ALL for it.
I am a firm believer in trying products first before making a purchase. Skin care products can be EXPENSIVE and home girl is on a budget. That’s why it was amazing that Heather sent over some products in sample size containers. Each product had enough to trial over a 2 week period. The products that I tried were the Rejuvenating Day Cream, Rejuvenating Night Cream, Rejuvenating Eye Cream, the Beautycounter Charcoal Bar, the Beautycounter+ Number 3 Collection (Balancing Oil, Balancing Charcoal Mask and Balancing Mist) and Beauty Counter Tint Skin Foundation in the color “Linen.”
Lets start with the Rejuvenating Lotions. One word: OBSESSED. If it’s one thing I have learned, it’s to have a good moisturizer. These take hydration to the next level! I have combination skin (meaning my T-zone is very oily while my cheeks are very dry) and these lotions were the perfect balance between my oily and dry facial areas. I especially loved the eye cream and the night cream and plan on purchasing them! I currently have a day cream, but once that runs out I will probably purchase this day cream as well. These items are on the pricier side however they are in line with high end moisturizer prices and require a small amount to cover your entire face.
Next is the Beautycounter+ Number 3 Collection (Charcoal Mask, Balancing Oil, Balancing Mist) and the Charcoal Cleansing Bar. I loved some of these products while others were not my favorite. I am in love with the Charcoal Mask and the Charcoal Bar. Activated Charcoal draws bacteria, chemicals, dirt, and impurities out of the skin allowing you to achieve that flawless look. I really did notice a difference in my complexion when using these two charcoal products. I will definitely be purchasing the charcoal bar and plan on asking for the mask for Christmas. The balancing oil smelled really nice and felt great on my skin however it did not agree with the oilier parts of my face. If you have dry skin, this products is probably perfect for you because it leaves your skin super soft. The mist was a really nice finish to my makeup routine. It worked as a setting spray and left my skin very hydrated.
Lastly, is the Tint Skin Foundation. I tried this product in the color “Linen.” This product was really nice because it went on smoothly and gave my skin a very natural look. The color also lasted all day long. If you usually wear full coverage foundations, you may want to layer this a few times. The only thing that I wasn’t a fan of was the grainy texture, but other than that no complaints!
I seriously recommend this brand of skin and beauty products. I was completely unaware of the chemicals as well as the harmful substances that are allowed in our beauty products today. I hope this review helped you learn a little bit more about skincare and what Beautycounter has to offer.
